Physical Description: | Stuffed chimpanzee toy of coarse black plush with rubber ears, face, hands and feet. Wearing a yellow cloth shirt and red cloth overalls with green plastic buttons. |
Description: | Zippy, the famous pet chimpanzee, appeared on the Howdy Doody television show between 1948 and 1960. Toy companies were quick to capitalize on the chimp's popularity, and released many variations through the 1970s, even a female called Tippy. Atlanta's Rushton Toy Company (aka Toys-At-Play), a mother-daughter team, made this stuffed Zippy of black plush with rubber face, hands and feet. Young owner Diana Bolch vacationed at Mount Rainier around 1955 with her favorite toy. |
