Physical Description: | This quilt's hand-pieced red and green blocks alternate with plain muslin squares, which are quilted in a feather wreath design. There is a 4" white border on two sides. The quilting was done by hand at 8-11 stitches to the inch. The edges are finished with a hand-stitched double pink binding. The backing is an off-white cotton. |
Description: | This quilt's red print fabric, known as Turkey red, was most likely imported from France or Scotland. This type of fabric was very popular during the mid-nineteenth century, as was the combination of red, green, and white fabrics. |
