Woman's White and Black Boots

Woman's White and Black Boots - Boot
Accession #: 3280.8
Title: Woman's White and Black Boots
Object Type: Boot
Participants:
Physical Description: Button-up boot with pointed toe. Two tone with white leather upper and polished black leather lower.
Description: Throughout the 1910s female clothing continued to loosen, both a practical and symbolic outcome of social change moving women away from restrictive Victorian expectations. During World War I, women on both sides of the Atlantic assumed male roles in the absence of men called to war. Dark colors suited the somber times. Daywear like this 1917 silk suit featured higher hemlines and subdued styling that echoed men's wear.
