Physical Description: | Two-piece forest green wool ski suit. The jacket (.22A) is green wool with knit cuffs and neck, and is closed in the front by eight 1" metal buttons. The pants (.22B) is green wool with knit ankle cuffs, and is closed at the side with four 1"metal buttons. |
Description: | Members of Spokane's McCarthy family wore this wool suit in the 1930s to enjoy the new sport of skiing. At that time, outdoor recreation-enthusiasts were forming ski clubs, installing rope tows and lights, and building cabins and road access. During the post-war ski boom, the Riblet Tramway Company of nearby Nelson, British Columbia designed and installed chairlifts at Mount Spokane and in Chewelah. Private ski clubs gradually gave way to access by the general public. |
