Physical Description: | Brown and tan clay jardinière with four yellow and brown flowers, pansies. The three main flowers are large with a small flower off to the side. The pot curves up with fluted edges. The glaze is darker in the background and around the flowers. |
Description: | Indoor plants, set into decorative "jardinière" pots like this one, were frequently displayed in late 19th century and early 20th century libraries and living rooms. To this end, Spokane architect Kirtland K. Cutter helped Grace Campbell and two of her friends order pots like this one from Ohio's popular Weller Pottery, choosing one from the "Louwelsa" line that Weller created in 1896 and named for his new daughter, Louisa. |
