Attached to faux brass stamped eagle pin at top. The medallion is attached to a blue ribbon halo which is backed with muslin. Red, white, and blue ribbon trail from the medallion and overlay the larger pink printed ribbon. |
Description: | Washington Good Roads Association members wore this ribbon at their 1903 Spokane convention. Bicyclists pressed for road improvements in the 1880s, and concern grew with automobile's popularity. In 1899 Seattle's Sam Hill led capitalists and progressives to form Washington's association, and in 1905 a state highway department was formed. By 1921 federal funding supported an interstate system of highways, which expanded greatly after World War II. |
