Physical Description: Trumpet with case. Case has many personal items inside including Wally's playlist with personal notes. The trumpet is brass colored on some pieces and silver colored on other pieces. The valve buttons for the trumpet are inlaid with mother of pearl.
Description: Wally Hagin (1915-2006) graduated from North Central High School, studied to become a mortician, played trumpet with the Al Freeman Big Band, and attended Gonzaga University. He earned a commercial pilot's license and spent World War II in Spokane in the Civilian Air Patrol. After the war, Hagin worked at the Bon Marché and J.C. Penney stores, and operated a photography business for five decades, capturing images of Spokane's African American history. He played trumpet in area clubs and for personal enjoyment throughout his life, and his annotated playlist is still tucked into his trumpet case.
