Physical Description: Small cardboard box with black lettering on cover contains a medal hanging from a colorful striped ribbon with metal clasp. Separate slide with ribbon attached to medal by brass ring; gold color round metal medal. Front of medallion has a woman with wings - breast plate- sword and shield embossed. Back is illustrated with a shield in the center and six embossed stars on the bottom.
Description: Gertrude McKernan earned this Victory Medal and other service medals as an American Red Cross Nurse in France during World War I. Trained at St. Luke's Nurses School, she later worked nearly forty years for the Spokane Health Department.
