Physical Description: | Oil on canvas painting, signed [Mrs.?] M. J. Bradley, depicting a mining town. |
Description: | Around 1892, M.J. Bradley depicted Gem, Idaho--a small mining town located in the canyon between Wallace and Burke. Hard-rock silver and lead mining in Idaho's Silver Valley required major capital investments and fueled a rush of migration. Violent labor disputes between union and management in the 1890s twice resulted in martial law. |
