Physical Description: | The scene appears to be of a corner of a room of a house with its walls omitted and the landscape visible around the periphery of the house. Vertical grey and white lines may be intended to simulate rain. Numerous bushes appear to the left and along the bottom margin of the image. The foundation of the room appears to be surrounded with a facing of bamboo poles placed horizontally and vertically from a fence, creating a visual division between the house and the landscape beyond. In the room, an old and middle aged man sit at a go table. The older is absorbed by the game and the younger turns to speak to a child in reddish orange robes standing next to a seated woman in grey. A fifth figure approaches the room from the right, carrying an umbrella. She wears a red, yellow and orange flower patterned robe and holds a cloth bundle. In addition to worm holes which occurred when the sheet was folded in the middle, curious ink splashes deface several areas near the margins. The whole print is bordered by a heavy and a light black line. |
