Washington Water Power Company published its "Timely Electric Cookery Suggestions" to promote use of electric appliances between 1939 and 1945. In 1936 President Roosevelt had established the Rural Electrification Administration as a lending agency to finance construction and operation of generating plants and transmission lines. The federal government was beginning to build hydroelectric projects, and granted public preference to consumer-owned, nonprofit utilities, like electric cooperatives, to make affordable, dependable power a reality in the communities of rural America. |
