Title: | Suiting Scrap Quilt |
Object Type: | Quilt |
Participants: | |
Physical Description: | This patchwork quilt is made of man's wool suiting scraps. The squares are rectangular in shape and roughly 3.5" x 5". The backing is a coarse weave plaid, possibly wool, with black background and lavender, green and tan stripes. The quilt is tied at the corner of each piece with either red or white yarn. The edges have simple hems. |
Description: | When new samples of men's suiting fabrics arrived at the tailor shop, outdated samples could be recycled into warm quilts. Around 1932, Elizabeth Stumpf did just that to create this quilt for use in her family's Spokane home and at their cabin on Newman Lake. |
