Physical Description: Object is a functioning model of a late 19th century and early 20th century maroon stagecoach (4a); consisting of a yellow metal chassis on leather suspension over wood and metal undercarriage, fabricated metal and clay driver (4j) and assistant (4k) with a shotgun (4l)atop the coach with female passenger (4g) with imitation fur lap robe (4h) inside the coach, three pieces of luggage(4d, 4e, and 4f) for stowage on tip rack or on rear deck, as well as a U.S. Mail bag (4c), one item of personal luggage (4i) accompanying passenger inside. The stagecoach is led by a three pair team of animals (4b). Written on the side of the stagecoach is: "Wells Fargo & Co." above the door, "Tekoa to St. Maries" on the lower front of the coach, "U.S. Mail" below the driver's seat, and "No. 5" below the US Mail sign.
Description: To narrate his life story, Amos McKee created models with wood, leather and iron parts. In 1892, 14-year-old Amos and family joined hundreds of people moving into the Inland Northwest by train. He operated a stagecoach between Tekoa, Washington and St. Maries, Idaho before homesteading and working for the railroad.
