Physical Description: This hand woven double weave coverlet of rose colored wool and white cotton has 16 full size and four 3/4 roses in weaving pattern. There are three nine inch borders with machine tape hemming on top and bottom. There are large quadrilaterally-symmetrical floral groups and several figures of a domed building labelled: "St. Peter's Church". There are two labels woven at either side of each church, facing on the two sides of the coverlet. The coverlet is also dated: "AD1841" twice at each corner. The coverlet is made of two panels seamed at the center with expert attention to matching patterning.
Description: This coverlet is associated with Amy Brockway Bromfield (c.1822-1911) and is dated 1841, the year she was married. Amy apparently spent the first part of her life in Palmyra, New York. She and her husband later moved to Ohio. As a widow, Amy moved to be with her youngest daughter and son-in-law, and she died in Spokane. This type of "figured and fancy" coverlet, woven by professional weavers, was popular during the1830s-1850s.
