| Description: | Leslie Francis founded the Silver Loaf Baking Company in 1926 and business boomed to 69 employees within seven years. They printed these paper book covers during World War II to encourage patriotism (and advertise their products). Although Francis was found guilty of federal income tax evasion during 1943-45, the family continued to lead their Spokane operation even after its 1977 sale to Interstate Brands, with over 30 bakeries nationwide. |
