Description: | Members of the Spokane Falls Typographical Union celebrated Labor Day 1901 by wearing this ribbon. A national typographical union was founded in 1852, including members from all areas of the printing industry. Gradually during the 19th century, specialized crafts such as pressmen, bookbinders, and photo engravers withdrew and formed their own international unions. The International Typographical Union was one of the first to admit female members and at the forefront of improving working conditions. |
