Physical Description: | Gold Tone photograph (curt-tone or orotone) depicting a male figure leaning against a boulder, on top of which is a small fire. All that is visible behind this scene is the night sky. Object is framed in a batwing style frame. |
Description: | An orotone photograph is created by printing a positive image onto a glass plate that has been pre-coated with gelatin silver emulsion. After exposure to light and developed, the back of the plate is coated with banana oil impregnated with gold powder, resulting in a vibrant, gold-toned image. This technique was popularized by Curtis as the Curt-Tone. |
