Physical Description: A) pin in shape of a cross Red Enamel with thin white line edging clasp on black. B) Pin in the shape of letters U.S. Covered with black paint clasp in back. C) clasp on back. Snakes coiled on staff with heads below wings all in gold color metal except for letters ANC in white paint. D) Long narrow metal pin covered in fabric that is vertical stripes - mainly reds, white, blue, fabric is attached in back by hand sewing clasp in back. E) metal pin covered in fabric that is a vertical stripe in wide bands of red, white and blue. Fabric sewn on in back clasp in back.
Description: Gertrude McKernan earned victory and service medals as an American Red Cross Nurse in France during World War I. Trained at St. Luke's Nurses School, she later worked nearly 40 years for the Spokane Health Department.
