| Physical Description: | This quilt has 42 squares, each measuring approximately 6 x 7" with a white cross in the center bordered by varying shades of pink. Each block has a name inscribed in ink. It has straight binding on the edges. See "Further Info" field for names on quilt. |
| Description: | During the 1850s-1860s, the Rev. J.H.B. Royal rowed a small boat and hiked trails in order to serve members of the Methodist Episcopal Church along the Columbia and Cowlitz Rivers. The ladies of these congregations, known as the Cowlitz Circuit, made this quilt for him when he remarried in 1868. The Rev. Royal was a popular minister who had originally come west on the Oregon Trail with his extended family in 1853. |

Black, Mary J. Black, not decipherable, Carrie Royal Black Line Four: Minnie Hodom, Ellene Wallace, Mary Washburn, Cynthia A. Haze, Mary Haze, Melinda Bishop, Ada. C. Huntington, Margaret Magger, Allice Magger, Lauretta Clara These inscriptions were taken from worksheet and some were difficult to read and as of 10/16/95 they have not been checked for spelling against the actual signatures on the quilt.
