Physical Description: Ceramic female bust has black pigtails that curl outward from her head to a point on either side; head leans forward on neck slightly. Clothing is yellow-cream with streaks of grey. Sculpture has glossy clear, yellow, or red spattered glaze irregularly scattered over all. Signature on the back of the proper right arm near the base "Warashina (c) 04"
Description: Patti Warashina remembers the Spokane of her childhood as a quiet, family-oriented town that "gave you a lot to think about during your spare time." She'd daydream about being on the seashore, stare up at the clouds and "be coloring away" in coloring books. The artist also recalls many hours of make-believe play with her dolls. Warashina's comfort within imaginative play never left her; surreal fantasy and dream-like worlds are the hallmarks of her ceramic art. Warashina puts forward images of wry mystery and delight - and sensitive commentary at times - all the while reflecting her experience as a female artist and working mother. During an extended trip to Rome, her daily travels brought her into contact with numerous statues of gods and goddesses in unexpected places. Her Rome series evolved out of that experience.
