Description: By 1913 the Spokane area boasted over 1400 automobile owners, each enjoying the new recreational opportunities and independence offered by these vehicles. Two years later, Agnes McDonald became a popular sight - she drove her shiny, black 1915 Rauch and Lang electric automobile around town until 1951, when she donated it to this museum. Her "electric" is nearly identical to the 1913 model operated by the Campbell family, residents of the museum's historic house. McDonald's model is now on regular view in the Campbell's carriage house. World War II rationing impacted this car. Since only small rubber tires were available, Agnes McDonald had a mechanic weld smaller wheels onto her car's original hubs. To save metal, the state issued windshield stickers instead of license plates.
