Description: Luigina "Louise" Balzaretti arrived from Italy in 1924 with her mother and siblings to join her father in Spokane. Though just 16, Louise established herself as a skilled dressmaker, and although ready-made clothing presented competition, she and partner Stena Lorenzi operated a dressmaking shop in downtown Spokane from 1926 until 1933. Then, Louise married Fileno DeFelice, manager of the U.S. Macaroni Company started by his father and several other Italian immigrants. After marriage, Louise made clothing for family instead of clients.
