Physical Description: Chunk of petrified wood. There is a light gray-purple hue to the wood, the bark is light grey with black beneath it. The piece is very angular.
Description: Do you recognize any of these petrified wood species? An ancient petrified forest, discovered near Vantage, Washington in the early 1930s, showed evidence of a long-ago lush, wet climate. Some species that flourished during that Miocene period are now extinct - but not all.
