Physical Description: Japanese sandals have flat wooden soles with high arches. Black polished leather straps, tacked to soles with small nails. Red woven cotton laces connect straps through brass rivets.
Description: Like many young well-to-do girls of her time, Helen Campbell (1892-1967) enjoyed collecting dolls and accessories representing different countries. Popular fascination with world exploration grew through the 19th century. Wealthy families took Grand Tours of Europe, Asia and the Middle East, including the Campbell's visits to Egypt and Europe in 1904 and 1909-1910.
