Physical Description: | This Overshot coverlet was hand woven in two 34 inch panels with panels stitched together and hemmed at each end. It appears to be made of natural-colored linen and blue wool. The pattern contains roses in a geometric and circular pattern. There are multiple old repairs throughout the piece. |
Description: | The many repairs on this piece suggest that it was well-loved and well-used. Overshot coverlets like this one were especially popular during the first half of the nineteenth century. Both home weavers and professionals made them. |
