Physical Description: | Empire or Classical Revival style mirror has gilt wood frame with split balusters connected by blocks with raised plaster rosettes at corners and modified egg-and-dart motif filet; two vertical pieces of wood divide the glass into three parts. |
Description: | Decorator William Otis recommended multiple mirrors in each of the Campbells' 2nd floor rooms. Dressing tables and some bureaus had built-in mirrors. "Cheval" floor mirrors appeared in others. And Otis specified large gilded "overmantel" mirrors like this one for a guest room, the master bedroom, and Amasa Campbell's study. |
