Physical Description: | Abstract welded bronze sculpture with circular geometric elements on a poured concrete base. |
Description: | "Growing up in the Great Depression, you learn to have as much regard for materials as for human resources," recalls artist Harold Balazs, one of the Inland Northwest's most prolific, inventive and inspired artists. "You save stuff - you save everything! And you learn to be resourceful; you make things." Since about 1950, the Mead resident has produced hundreds of sculptures, enamels, prints, watercolors, jewelry, furniture, even boats. His art dots the streets of Spokane and Coeur d'Alene, and is recognizable for its intertwining forms - some in giant stainless-steel sculptures, others enameled onto old washing-machine lids. Balazs says, "Of the whole creative process, pure and simple: it is fun." |
