Physical Description: Lenses of goggles are of glass framed with metal frames. A rectangular link connects both lenses at center; link is embossed with letters: "MK II" and "PILOT." A goggle shaped leather pad is rubberized on one side, and has become detached from metal lenses. Goggles have light green adjustable elastic strap.
Description: Norman Erickson entered the North Dakota National Guard in 1935 and completed naval training in 1937. By 1940, he worked for Vultee Aircraft Company in Long Beach, California. Norman learned to fly and in 1942 was certified as an aviator with the United States Navy. In 1943, he crashed in the Aleutian Islands and was missing for a harrowing 12 days. He suffered severe frost bite to his feet, resulting in the amputation of the toes on both feet.
