Physical Description: Dog tags - round metal discs with a small hole for attachment to a chain. Information - name, country, unit, etc. - stamped into the metal.
Description: Inza Gertrude McKernan attended Spokane High School and trained to be a nurse at St. Luke's School for Nurses. She became the Superintendent of Rivercrest Hospital, the city's isolation hospital, where she learned to work with contagious patients. In 1918, at 33 years old, she departed for France with Hospital Unit C to treat wounded and sick soldiers. McKernan received multiple medals for her work in France, including the Silver Medaille d'Honneur des Epidemies for her dedication to treating French soldiers suffering from influenza. When she returned to Spokane, McKernan spent 40 years working for the health district.
