Physical Description: A prominent figure in white shirt stands in the foreground of a spacious landscape with a lesser figure behind. Background landscape with horizon line, clouds and sky is depicted with varying shades of blue. Painting is framed in a smooth, blue artist-made frame.
Description: David Airhart's paintings portray man's relationship to time, place and destiny: "One's place in society seems predestined by physical and mental abilities or handicaps. The images in my mind portray an attitude of acceptance of the phenomenon by the subject in the painting." Purposely reducing his palette to five colors, Airhart achieves a wide range of tonal hues by mixing and burnishing. Through his process of concentrated rubbing, the surfaces become rich and luminous.
