Description: | Typical of many well-to-do families that chose to build, decorate, and furnish new homes around the turn of the 20th century, in 1897-98 Amasa and Grace Campbell enlisted the expertise of both an architect and a decorator, choosing the prominent Spokane architectural firm of Kirtland Cutter & Karl Malmgren, and the Cleveland, Ohio interior decorator, William Otis. The Otis plan specified numerous pieces of mahogany furniture, mostly new construction in revival styles, including this Empire Revival chair for the Library desk, originally upholstered in "figured velour" to match the Library sofa and other chairs. |
