Physical Description: This solid pink quilt is quilted in a scalloped pattern around the edges with a large feather pattern towards the center. There is a heavily embroidered pink monogram in the center featuring a large "H".
Description: The quilting design and beautifully hand embroidered monogram identify this quilt as a "Wilkinson Art Quilt". Sisters Iona Wilkinson Smalley (1876-1949) and Rosalie Wilkinson Dickerson (1892-1976) sold handmade quilts through the mail from their factory in Ligonier, Indiana between 1908 and 1943. Made for the luxury market, these quilts were advertised as "a new kind of quilt," made for "people who want the best and are able to pay for it" with decorative monograms "designed for discriminating owners of these famous quilts." The "discriminating owner" of this quilt was Loretta Jane Hussey Howe (1889-1986).
