Description: | Spokane's falls not only powered flour and saw mills, but also generated electricity at a competitively low price as early as 1885. Four years later, Washington Water Power Company constructed a power station on the high falls near Monroe Street. Over the next fifty years, the building of northwest hydroelectric plants stimulated continued economic growth in both urban and rural areas. |
