Description: | Louis and Verus Davenport and their son Lewis all had an eye for acquiring beautiful decorative arts. In 1987 Lewis bequeathed over 125 family pieces to this museum, along with funds to preserve them and to create expanded museum galleries. René Lalique, who designed this Ispahan Rose vase, gained fame for elegant sculptural jewelry designs, inspired by nature and by Japanese artwork encountered at world fairs. After awards in St. Louis (1904) and Paris (1900, 1912), he devoted himself to glass designs ranging from major architectural elements to perfume bottles. |
