Physical Description: Sterling serving or jelly spoon in Reed & Barton's La Rocaille pattern has oval bowl with repousse serrated scallops on one half of rim. Handle has unidentified asymmetrical pattern of shell, scrolls and flowers with simpler version on handle reverse. Engraved "Tacoma '91" on handle reverse, near tip.
Description: The 1859 Comstock Lode discovery provided a large silver supply, and silver flatware became a dining essential. New serving pieces were introduced during the 1880s and 1890s, before the number of pieces in any one pattern began to decline. Grace Campbell owned an assortment of flatware pieces in various styles, occasionally monogrammed, including this sugar or jelly spoon by Reed and Barton in the 1890 "La Rocaille" pattern.
