Physical Description: | Uniform consists of a black wool coat (1a) with a stand up collar, a patch on each sleeve of silver and red cross, a black wool vest (1b) with a gold and cream stripe lining, and black wool trousers (1c) with a button fly. In addition there is a black leather belt (1d) with silver Knights Templar clips and swag and with a heavy silver medallion buckle with a red cross, a sword (1e) with an ivory shank and an embossed blade: "Edwin A. Smith", a leather scabbard (1f) with "Edwin A. Smith - Spokane, Wash." in ink on the black leather, a black grosgrain pillbox hat (1g) with visor and a silver and red cross on the front and a hat cover, a Napoleon style hat (1h) plumed with white and black with braids and a medallion of a silver and red cross and a hat cover, and a pair of gloves (1i-1j). |
Description: | As members of the world's oldest fraternal organization, "The Ancient Free and Accepted Masons," Knights Templar members wore this uniform. All kinds of fraternal and cultural clubs have provided critical services for community improvement, as well as personal friendships. Many have also assisted diverse cultures in celebrating and protecting their heritages. |
