Physical Description: | Kerr's Navy Revolver, .36 caliber with five shots. The octagonal barrel is 5 3/4" long; the grip is checkered walnut, double-action. |
Description: | The London [England] Armory Company made its Kerr revolver from 1859 to 1866, mostly for sale to the Confederate Army during the Civil War. This revolver came from the family of Virginia native, John Mullan, but was manufactured too late to support the family claim that Mullan used the revolver in the 1858 Battle of Four Lakes, in command of 30 Nez Perce allies in U.S. cavalry uniform. Although relationships between Northern Plateau tribes and settlers were generally peaceful, military conflict eventually touched all areas. |
