Description: Kaiser Aluminum created this display to advertise metal siding under their "Rough Shake" brand. This cardboard display box opens to show aluminum siding samples in white, along with metal swatches of five other available colors. During WWII, the Inland Northwest population increased 37 percent in areas where there was war work. Electricity from Grand Coulee Dam was vital for wartime aluminum production; by the end of 1942, there were new plants in Spokane, Trentwood, Vancouver and Longview. Henry J. Kaiser revitalized his company's Mead and Trentwood aluminum plants in 1946, making a commitment to post-war production and creating numerous employment opportunities for the region. Along with the effects of the G.I. Bill, war time industries and their successors would become a major economic force within the Inland Northwest.
