Physical Description: Jordanian bride with dowry coins on hat and on necklace wearing a dress with wine, green and gold narrow vertical stripes, a V-neck and embroidery. The clothing includes a the long sleeved jacket detailed with embroidert and a high crowned hat with sixteen coins attached. The head and lower legs are made of compisition and the body made of cloth and stuffed with straw. It has bright blue glass eyes with dark pupils, painted brows and lips and tinted cheeks. The upper and lower lashes are painted and the nose is scuffed. The proper right arm missing. There are black shoes with ankle strap over white stockings with red line around the top painted on the legs.
Description: Like many young well-to-do girls of her time, Helen Campbell (1892-1967) enjoyed collecting dolls representing different countries, like this Jordanian bride doll. Popular fascination with world exploration grew through the 19th century. Wealthy families took Grand Tours of Europe, Asia and the Middle East, including the Campbell's visits to Egypt and Europe in 1904 and 1909-1910.
