Physical Description: | Object is a metal, pull-to-start, 3 horsepower outboard motor from Johnson Motor Company. The pull start is located at the top of the motor and is comprised of rope with a wooden handle. The motor has two clamps for attaching it to the back of a boat, a black plastic covered steering handle, and a twin blade propeller. |
Description: | This Johnson boat motor was in frequent use at the Biermann family cabin on Newman Lake. Many Inland Northwest families maintain "lake places" on hundreds of regional lakes and dam reservoirs. The region's clear, sunny, dry climate and short winters attract locals, tourists, and retirees to recreational activities like fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, boating, skiing, and bird watching. After World War II new recreational vehicles appeared, Interstate 90 was completed, and for some people, standardized weekends and paid vacations provided more leisure time. |
