Physical Description: | This flat cotton sack has the following words printed in English: "H. Skott and Co., Hong Kong, Roller Mills Company" in green and "Chinese Flag". There are also Chinese characters in red and an image of two flags. One flag has five stripes: red, yellow, blue, white, and black. The other flag has a red field, with a blue canton featuring a white sun with twelve points. |
Description: | Manufactured sacks made of cotton cloth were commonly used as flour packaging from the late 1800s to the 1960s. Pacific Northwest mills exported flour to the Chinese market as early as the 1890s, and, generally, the trade was brokered by Hong Kong merchants. |
