Physical Description: | This quilt made up of hexagons that are about 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 inches in size, arranged to form 72 "flowers". The center hexagon of each "flower" is green and is surrounded by yellow hexagons. Hexagons cut from a variety of prints make up the outside row of each "flower". The edge is scalloped and it is bound with a green 1/4 inch edge. |
Description: | "Grandmother's Flower Garden" was a very popular pattern during the 1920s and 1930s. Kits for this pattern were widely available, and Bertha Krause Schimanski may have used one to make this quilt. However, she gave her artwork an individual touch; her placement of the "flowers" makes them appear to float against the white background. |
