Physical Description: Miniature folding fan with black plastic handle and paper fan. One side of the paper when expanded is painted gold, the other side of the paper is painted silver. A tassel is attached to the fan handle with a metal pin. The tassel is white at attachment point and changes to red at tassel end. Two bow knots are in the tassel string near the tassel end.
Description: This fan, "Sensu", is to be tucked into the left side of the obi (the wide belt), according to Michiko Takaoka, former director of the Japanese Cultural Center Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute. Given to the MAC, specifically for Miss Tokushima (accession # 812) to replace missing accessories, during her trip to Japan in 2010. Given by the original Doll manufacturer, Yoshitoku Corporation, and the Japanese Borrower, the Tokushima Prefecture Museum.
