Physical Description: | Dome or bell shaped reed/straw hat with a leather finial at the top. Many small painted dots make an intricate design covering the entire surface of the exterior. |
Description: | Spokane residents Irvin and Merilyn Strong Winship lived in the Philippines as missionaries from 1951 to 1967 and returned with objects representing the Filipino heritage, primarily of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindinau Island regions. Irvin Winship also photographed the land and people for Arameo World Magazine. The Winship Collection not only tells a family story, but also reflects the region's Filipino heritage. Members of the Filipino American Association of the Inland Empire (FAAIE) helped us select key objects for museum preservation; the rest became a teaching collection managed by the FAAIE. |
