Description: Spokane became the smallest city to host a World's Fair (May-November, 1974), which served 5.1 million visitors. Its ecology theme, "Celebrating Tomorrow's Fresh New Environment," reflected the national environmental movement begun in the 1960s. Cheryl Joe of Arizona made this quilt for the fair's U.S. Pavilion to illustrate the EXPO '74 motto, "Recycle and Reuse." The fair's legacy, Riverfront Park, has become a gathering place for sports events, powwows, music, and leisure entertainment.
