Title: | Eight-Pointed Star Quilt |
Object Type: | Quilt |
Participants: | |
Physical Description: | Forty-two pink 8-pointed stars are appliqued onto the white background of this quilt. The quilting design is concentric circles. It was edged by bringing the backing to the front. The quilting stitches measure six stitches to the inch. It appears to be all hand made. |
Description: | This deceptively simple quilt is actually quite unusual. Quilt makers usually make eight-pointed stars by piecing diamond-shaped fabrics together. However, the maker of this quilt cut the stars out of one piece of pink fabric, then appliqued them to the white background. The concentric rings of the quilting design make the stars appear to sparkle. This quilt was part of Annie Tuck's dowry, made by the time of her 1894 wedding to William McEachern. |
