Description: | Philanthropists Edward and Marie Hughes supported the Spokane Symphony and donated the Hughes Building on Gonzaga University's campus. Edward operated several businesses, including Hughes Plumbing and Morrison Brothers Seed Company. Spokane artist Bertha Ballou studied art on the East Coast and in Europe; she painted the Hughes portraits in 1955. |
