Description: Liquor wholesaler and retailer Jimmie Durkin came first to Colville, then in 1897 opened a gentleman's club and two saloons in downtown Spokane. Known for creative marketing, Durkin distributed his products in custom-marked stoneware jugs, clear "picnic drink" bottles, and this brown-glass "megaphone." Washington state prohibited alcohol sales after December 31, 1915, and Durkin closed until Prohibition was repealed in 1933.
