Title: | Doublecloth Coverlet |
Object Type: | Coverlet |
Participants: | |
Physical Description: | This doublecloth coverlet in a double snowball pattern, with pine tree border, is reversible. Its colors are a muted red, indigo and white. The bottom of the piece is fringed in weave, and the side fringe is stitched on. Likely this is only half of the original coverlet. |
Description: | Some of this coverlet's white yarn has been worn away, revealing the "pockets" that are typical of doublecloth weaving. A doublecloth coverlet has two sets of warp threads and two sets of weft threads, which are woven simultaneously and interchanged at set points in the pattern. Most likely, this piece is only one half of the original coverlet. |
