Description: | On Sunday, August 4, 1889, a fire engulfed most of downtown Spokane Falls, destroying 32 square blocks. The National Guard guarded the "burnt district," and property owners had to obtain passes to retrieve their belongings. Daniel Dwight used this pass to collect souvenirs of the businesses that had operated in his three-story Falls City Block. Several Washington towns and cities experienced extensive fires that year, including Seattle, Ellensburg, and Cheney. |
